A terraced Edwardian family home in East Sheen, fully renovated and extended, where the classic and the contemporary sit easily together.
From the roof down, the house was thoughtfully reworked. A side extension adds space at ground level, a new dormer makes the most of the roof, and a full renovation ties the two together, opening up the plan and refreshing the rooms throughout. The finished home works much harder day to day, while keeping its period charm.
The extension is built in traditional London stock brick to match the original house, while industrial Crittall glazing gives it a contemporary sharpness. That same glazing continues inside, where steel-framed screens divide the hall and reception rooms yet let daylight travel freely between them. Classic and contemporary sit in easy balance throughout.
Light pours into the kitchen and family space through the roof glazing of the side extension, which opens to the garden through steel-framed doors. A soft, painted kitchen, with a green island, stone worktops and brass, sits alongside a dining area, drawing the family's rooms together into one easy, sociable space. Beyond it, the restored staircase and panelling carry the period character through the home, so the classic and the contemporary sit comfortably side by side.
